2016 Grants to New Orleans LGBTQ Nonprofits

At its recent Board meeting, the Friday Night Before Mardi Gras organization made its yearly grant donations to four area non-profits, supporting their direct service programs which reach a wide variety of members of the LGBTQ community.   This year FNBMG was able to direct a total of $9,000 back into the community through Breakout Youth, NO AGE NOLA, Gay Easter Parade and Food for Friends, and Crescent Care and the NOAIDS Task Force. In addition, FNBMG raised $7,350 for the medical expenses of Leonel Melendez, a New Orleans area native and a victim of the horrific tragedy at the Pulse Club in Orlando.

We Are Pulse

We Are Pulse

Friday Night Before Mardi Gras was devastated to learn of the tragic nightclub shooting at Pulse in Orlando, Florida, where 49 of our brothers and sisters lost their lives and 53 more were injured.  We have few words to express the sorrow, fear, outrage, and sadness we feel. However, our community is resilient and we decided the best way for Friday Night Before Mardi Gras to make an impact was to do what we do best:  host an event to raise funds for a New Orleans native who was injured in the shooting.

Adult Swim Pool Party

Adult Swim Pool Party

Darkness to Light: The artistic search of what lies in between.  Sculpture artist Grey Cross of New Orleans, photographer John Sevigny of El Salvador, and mixed media artist Rosie Hartmann of Milwaukee, WI put together a show that delves into what lies in between the light and the dark.  Through the proceeds from the raffle and the tips garnered by our hard-working bartenders Clay Christian and John Michael Alderson, we were able to raise over $500 in donations, to be distributed to LGBTQ charities in New Orleans.
